Empowering the Bloemfontein Community Through Diabetes Education
On Saturday, 09 May, our young stars had the exciting opportunity to learn the beautiful game of Chess with the founder of the Heidedal Chess Foundation, Mr Vaughan! ♟️✨
The room was filled with excitement, laughter, and curious minds as our members learned new chess skills and strategies. From the very first move, the children showed incredible enthusiasm and focus! 🧠👏
Chess is more than just a game — it teaches patience, confidence, concentration, and problem-solving in a fun and creative way. Seeing our learners so engaged and eager to learn made the day truly unforgettable. 🌟
Of course, we also enjoyed our special book reading session 📖 and celebrated our amazing moms with a small Mother’s Day gift 💐 because every queen deserves to be appreciated! 👑
A huge THANK YOU to Mr Vaughan for sharing his passion and inspiring our learners through chess. We can’t wait for the next move! ♟️💫

Three years ago, our son Carter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes — a journey that has taught us so much about care, discipline, and resilience 💙
On Saturday, 04 April 2026, he had his very first check-up with Wayne Marais, and we’re happy to share some wonderful news — his eyes are still in great condition! 👁️✨
This visit was also a powerful reminder of how important good glucose control is in protecting long-term health, especially when it comes to vision.
We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity for Carter to be examined, and for the guidance, encouragement, and motivation we received.
Every step forward is a win — and every check-up is a reminder that with the right care, knowledge, and support, living well with Type 1 Diabetes is absolutely possible 🙌
We are incredibly proud to share that our story has been featured in the Mangaung Issue and in The Citizen — a meaningful step forward in raising awareness where it matters most 💙
This platform allows us to shine a light on an important mission: educating local primary schools on how to properly support and care for learners living with Type 1 Diabetes.
Through this awareness, we aim to equip teachers, staff, and peers with practical knowledge — the do’s and don’ts, the signs to watch for, and the simple yet life-changing actions that help keep our little fighters safe, supported, and thriving.
Because every child deserves not only to be safe at school, but to feel included, understood, and empowered within the education system 🙌
Together, through education and awareness, we can create environments where children with Type 1 Diabetes don’t just cope — they confidently belong, grow, and succeed 🌟

Carter’s Book Club 2026 Kick-Off Celebration – 7 March 2026
What an incredible start to the year! 🎉 Carter’s Book Club kicked off 2026 with a day full of laughter, energy, and wonderful moments together. We were so excited to welcome many new members into our book club family. It was a fantastic time of getting to know each other, sharing smiles, and celebrating the start of another great year. The day was packed with fun activities — from lively ping pong games to dancing and so much more! The room was filled with joy, music, and lots of laughter as everyone joined in the excitement. A special highlight was seeing our wonderful caregivers, Carmen and Wilmien, joining the fun as well. Their enthusiasm and support made the day even more special for everyone.
Thank you to all our members for making the 2026 Kick-Off such a joyful and memorable celebration. We look forward to a year filled with friendship, fun activities, and many great moments together at Carter’s Book Club! 📚✨

On Saturday, 13 December 2025, Carmen visited the School of Armour with several children from the centre. The group was warmly welcomed by Capt Luriska Jooste, Adjutant of the School of Armour, and taken on a guided tour of the unit by Capt Jooste and Sgt Mpho Mokhele, Acting Communication Officer of the School of Armour. Throughout the visit, members engaged with the children in a spirit of respect, discipline, and professionalism. The children had great fun and was in awe of what they have learnt. Thank you to the SANDF School of Armour for hosting Carter's Diabetic and Edu-Care Centre.

You'll never guess what we've been up to! Our little team got together for a super fun project: building the South African flag with a rainbow of plastic bottle caps. The room was buzzing with excitement as we pieced it all together. The best part? We shared the wonderful story behind our flag and what each of its colours represents. So much joy in one colourful afternoon!

A Sprouting Success: Our Green Project Day!

What an incredible day we had on Saturday, October 25th, 2025! The Carter's Book Club was buzzing with excitement for our special Green Project, where we dug into the wonderful world of plants.
Our young learners discovered just how powerful plants are—not only do they beautify our community spaces, but they also clean our air and bring people together. The highlight? Getting our hands dirty to plant vibrant chilli trees! The enthusiasm was contagious, and everyone had an absolute blast.
The adventure doesn't end there! Each budding gardener proudly took their very own chilli tree home. We can't wait to see their weekly growth updates, as this ongoing project will beautifully reveal the magic and wonder of nature, right before our eyes. Watch this space for updates on our little green wonders!

It's official! Our hearts are bursting with joy as we celebrate the grand opening of our brand-new Library in Bloemfontein, Free State!
